Drawing on years of experience designing and refining the Laukhuff S.1
we continued the quest for better stops control by introducing the S1.1.
After even more research we found a solution many organists have been asking for:

Like its predecessors, the S1.2 adjusts the force automatically to move sliders reliably regardless of changing humidity or temperature.
From now on, it also makes sure all stops move in exactly the same time
regardless of the travel or force required.

We continue to source the magnet with a force of up to 105N from Laukhuff's long-standing supplier Kendrion. The internationally leading manufacturer of industrial automation components guarantees uncompromising durability. Exclusively for Orgelpunkt, the double-acting solenoid is manufactured at Lake Constance with a special coil which, in combination with the solenoid system precision-manufactured to hundredths of a millimeter, enables the force characteristic optimized for organ building. It is not without reason that we have always called the development project "Arnold" internally.

In the first days after the Laukhuff insolvency, we sat down with the former developers to refine our favorite product. The proven concept of automatic force control got additional possibilities: Four sensors monitor the end positions of the magnet and simultaneously measure the speed at which the slider moves. This makes it possible to switch the stops reliably at all times and yet move them gently to the end positions. Together with the thick felts on the limiting discs and the integrated vibration dampers between the magnet and the base plate, the intelligence of the S1.2 ensures virtually silent stop changes - pure organ music without unwanted percussion accompaniment.
The latest software generation now also optimizes the time in which a stop change takes place. All stops now switch on perfectly synchronously, a tutti switches precisely in time. In double registrations, the drawstops move in exact choreography. The speed can be preselected in 8 steps. All solenoids with the same setting run synchronously, even if the travel of the sliders is different.

The S1.2 can be used in any installation. It can be operated with voltages from 12 to 27V. (When operating at 12V, the maximum force is limited to 45N.) Control signals can be processed with positive or negative polarity, both as a single "RS" signal or as a tandem of on and off pulses. For double registrations, the S1.2 also supplies switching signals to the capture system.
The automatic force control is taught in a few seconds after installation at the push of a button and adjusts the force individually to each slider. If the friction force changes over time, the S1.2 continuously adapts to the conditions and ensures reliable operation. Even in the event of sudden changes, the slider does not get stuck when the intelligent solenoid detects the impending blockage and mobilizes power reserves at short notice. The error memory signals the need for maintenance to organ builders at the next visit with a flashing error LED.

The alternative force preselection mode also copes with difficult mechanical conditions. Here, the force is preset in the up and down direction in precise digital steps. This mode is suitable for actuating mechanical couplers, especially toggle designs, or actions that require overcoming irregular resistance, or require tearing loose older sliders after infrequent use.

The sensors monitor when the end positions are reached. If the magnet has not reached the end position after 0.7 seconds, the current is increased again for another 0.5 seconds. This is usually sufficient to overcome increased resistance. The function is still guaranteed. The error LED flashes as a note that the mechanics should be checked.

The newly developed circuit board holder made of a high-tech plastic of the highest fire protection class V0 (according to UL94) protects the control circuit board all around and shields the sensors against contamination. The care taken by the designers is evident in important details: additional pass-throughs allow access to the inner mounting holes of the base plate even in narrow pitches, which can be used to replace the S1.2 on existing holes of historical Laukhuff magnets. Cable harnesses can be tamed with cable ties at eight attachment points along the narrow sides.

Even though the powerhouse can develop an enormous 105N (If the slider doesn't move then, the organ has other problems...), safety is never compromised. Temperature sensors inside the winding trigger a fuse on the circuit board by a sophisticated protection circuit, in case the magnet should be overloaded by an electronic defect. A climatic chamber test under tropical conditions proves that even under these conditions, in the event of a complete failure of the control system, a maximally loaded solenoid does not burn out and does not reach the ignition temperature of paper or wood even after hours on the housing.
