Electrical safety

 

At the beginning of the 2000s, the electrical safety of organs was still a marginal issue at best. "What could happen with 12 or 24 volts?" was the prevailing opinion. A blatant misjudgement.

Because it's low voltages that make large currents flow. Power supplies of several hundred amperes are not uncommon in organs. If these currents flow in short circuits through cables that are only fractions of a millimetre thick, instruments that are largely made of wood are acutely at risk of fire.
